10 ways to have fun on a rainy day

Have you ever been stuck inside on a rainy day? What are some ways to make the day more fun?

Rainy days can be boring, but they don't have to be. Here are ten ideas for how to have fun when it's pouring outside! If your parents won't let you go out in the rain and if you need some cool ideas to have fun with your family, try these at home. You'll love them!

1. Play board games with friends and family

Rainy days are the perfect excuse to stay inside and bond with your loved ones. Board games are fun for everyone, especially when you have friends over! There are so many options out there for everyone in your family. A few of my favorites are Monopoly, Checkers, Chinese Checkers, and Connect 4.

2. Watch a movie

There's nothing better than snuggling up with a blanket and watching a good movie. Peruse Netflix or pop some popcorn to have at home for an afternoon of movies. You could find a new favorite that way, who knows? If you really want an adventure though, there are always drive-in movie theatres!

3. Go on Facebook or Twitter to see what your friends are up to

If you're stuck inside with nothing to do, why not catch up on what your friends are doing? Facebook and Twitter can be fun even when you don't have anything else going for you. You could also play online games like Farmville or Candy Crush. There are tons of ways to have fun online!

4. Read a book, magazine, or newspaper

Reading a book on a rainy day is a classic. You could borrow from the library or just stay home with your favorite reading material. If you're looking for some new ideas, check out what's hot in young adult novels. A few of my favorites are The Fault In Our Stars, Divergent, and The Hunger Games.

5. Cook something new and delicious for dinner

Getting creative in the kitchen is something fun to do on a rainy day. There are tons of recipes online for cooking and baking that you can try out, so use your imagination! If you're looking for something tasty, try making chocolate fondue.

6. Paint your nails in the color of the season (or any other color)

Depending on the season, rain could also mean that the colors of fall or winter are in. Paint your nails to match with either color and embrace how awesome it looks! If you want to play it safe, any color will do. I personally love black and red.

7. Make a playlist of songs that you love listening to on rainy days

If you're looking for a way to get in the mindset of rainy days, make a playlist. Put on some country songs like Taylor Swift's “Stay Stay Stay” and Carrie Underwood's “Before He Cheats.” The playlist can be classical or heavy metal; either would be fun. If your family is acting especially crazy today, you could even listen to a rain sound effect on YouTube!

8. Play an instrument – try out different ones until you find one that suits you best!

Playing an instrument on a rainy day is another fun way to pass the time. If you're feeling really creative, try playing two instruments at once! I play trombone and piano, but there are tons of other options out there. Maybe drums or guitar? You could even try something like bagpipes or harmonica!

9. Work on a DIY project from Pinterest or YouTube

There are tons of DIY projects for you to do on a rainy day. You could build something or paint it; either way, most of them will leave you with a great outcome. If Pinterest isn't your thing (but I highly recommend it), YouTube has some fun ideas as well. You could even use one of your favorite quotes to inspire you!

10. Catch up on sleep! It's the best thing ever

There are definitely days when you just need to take a break and catch up on some sleep. Maybe you didn't get much last night or maybe it's something else; either way, getting all the zzz's in that you can is the best thing ever.

Takeaways

Here are 10 ways that you can have fun on a rainy day. They range from making music to catching up on sleep. Be creative and find new things to do! If all else fails, you can always go back to sleep. Everyone needs some time to rest once in a while, trust me.
